2010 Colgate Classic Job Descriptions
Safety
Marshall at the Well and stand at a corner of the pool during
warm-ups wearing an orange vest
This
person is to watch the pool area for any unsafe conduct like
running, playing around in the warm down area.
Just a general eye to be sure everyone is acting in a safe
manor in and around the pool.
Also if there is an accident to locate either Bill Boyce or
Scott Risucci to fill out the accident forms.
This person will be primarily stationed at the well.
The corner in the pool area by the door to the Officials
Room. This
person will also stand at a corner of the pool during warm-ups
wearing an orange vest
Head
Timer and Back up Timer
They
will get the clip boards, pencils, heat sheets and stop watches
ready for each session for the lane timers.
Have the timers called to pick up lane information at least
15 minutes ahead of start of each session.
If there is someone missing to have the announcer in the
Crows Nest make an announcement of who is missing.
If it is almost time for the meet to start have a Cuda parent
from a list, fill in until the swim team sends someone.
Or if a team needs to leave or do not have enough parents to
time to help out with this by having a Cuda parent fill in.
During the swim meet they will also start 2 stop watches at
the beginning of each heat so in case anyone of the lane timers do
not start correctly they can use this watch.
This person should also keep track of what Event and Heat is
currently in the water.
They will receive a master copy of the heat sheets to cross
off the event/heat that has just finished.
This person will be primarily stationed at the well.
The corner in the pool area by the door to the Officials
Room.
Awards
Clerk
This
person will put the printed stickers for each of the awards on the
back of the appropriate place ribbons and then put them in the team
bag for the coach to pick up after the finals on Sunday. This
person will be primarily positioned in the crow nest.
The Sunday afternoon and finals is the busiest time for this
position.
The coaches want to get going as soon as they can so they are
waiting for their ribbons to be done.
Copy
Helper
This
person will help during warm-ups make copies, staple ads to programs
then run them out to where we are selling the programs.
During the meet we also ask this person to keep an eye on the
officials room.
If the water, soda, Gatorade or snacks need replenishing to
restock.
If the water is low there is usually a few cases of water in
the room.
Just keep the buckets full.
This water is used for the Officials, Coaches, Lane Timers
and Crows Nest workers.
We also ask this person to go around every hour of the meet
session to distribute water to the Officials, Lane Timers, Coaches
and Crows Nest workers.
Lane
Timers(if needed) and stand at a corner of the pool during warm-ups

This
is in case we need to have a lane timer fill in for a team that has
not sent someone to time yet, need to leave before the end of a
session or do not have enough parents to help with the timing.
The teams from outside of NY sometimes come on a bus with
minimal number of parents.
This may be for 1-2 hours but should not be more than that.
Hopefully we would not need more than 2.
But we need someone available.
They will need to hang around the well before session starts
and during the session check in with Head timer to see if needed.
These people will also stand at a corner of the pool during
warm-ups wearing an orange vest
Runner
to post results and Concession Watcher
This
person will get a program(heat sheets) and highlight the concession,
programs and tee shirt worker’s swimmers and be responsible to let
the parent(s) know at least 5 minutes ahead of time when their
swimmer is up.
We want to be sure those that are working outdoors do not
miss seeing their swimmer swim.
This person will be primarily in the pool area paying
attention to what event and heat is about to be swum.
This person will also need to take the Event results that are
lowered in a bucket from the Crows Nest to the pool level and tape
them in the designated area outside of the pool.
They will be divided by gender then each event in order under
each gender
Announcer
This
person will announce once the heat starts who is swimming in each
lane. Also
any announcements they are asked to.
Like calling of the Lane Timers at least 15 minutes prior to
each session.
Occasionally they are asked to make other announcements and
to do this.
They should report at least ½ hour before session starts.
This person is stationed in the Crows Nest.
Concession
Stand
There
needs to be at least 1 cook and 1 cashier per session.
When the cook or cashier’s swimmer is about to swim they
will need someone else in the concession stand to fill in for them.
All the rest will take and fill orders given by the attendees
of the meet.
We sell a wide variety of food, goodies, soda, Gatorade and
water. There
will be 1 person assigned to be in charge to make decisions and keep
a general eye on the workings at the Concession Stand.
Sometimes the vendor will ask one of us to fill in for her to
watch over her stuff while she uses the facilities.
Programs
and Tee Shirts
These
meets are positive check in meets.
The heat sheets get printed about 15 minutes prior to that
session starting.
Both people working here will be very busy during this time.
These will work the same hours as the concession workers.
They will be located outside with or near the concession
stand tent.
